What's Broadband?
Broadband is high speed Internet access through a cable or DSL modem. It gives you a faster connection than dial up. You need a broadband connection to use INS Communications because we insist on high quality audio for all your calls.
A typical INS Communications phone call works like this. You dial through any touch-tone phone. When you speak into your telephone, INS Communications converts your voice into digital data packets. We do this with a phone adapter box.
We send your data packets across the Internet to a computer closer to the party you called. Behind the scenes the INS Communications network re-assembles those packets and sends it the last mile to their phone. That's why INS Communications customers can call any telephone on Earth, not just other VoIP users.
If you imagine that your phone call is an important package. Bandwidth is to your VoIP service what a highway is to your delivery truck. The wider the roadway, the quicker the vehicle can reach its destination. That's why INS Communications service is designed to work with your broadband connection. Broadband connections are like 12 lane highways.
It's important to note that not all high speed Internet connections use Broadband. For example, a company called NetZero sells NetZero High Speed Internet access. This is actually a dial up service and doesn't give you sufficient speed for good quality VoIP. As a general rule, if you're getting speeds of 90K or better, you probably have a broadband connection.
